Inspiriert vom Monetary National Income Analogue Computer – kurz MONIAC – von Bill Phillips aus den 1940er-Jahren, baute Daniël De Bruin eine analoge Installation, die von bis zu vier Personen gleichzeitig gespielt werden kann: Geld ausgeben, investieren und verdienen – und den Lauf der «Geldkugeln» im Finanzsystem verfolgen.

1949 baute Bill Phillips einen analogen Computer um das Funktionieren einer Wirtschaft in einem fliessendem System zu demonstrieren. Daniël De Bruins Installation kann als Hommage verstanden werden.

Um De Bruins Maschine und die Geschäfte in Gang zu setzen muss der Cashflow physisch aktiviert werden. Dies fügt dem System, das im Wirtschaftsalltag hauptsächlich virtuell verläuft, eine körperliche Dimension hinzu. Um Geld zu verdienen, kann man wählen, ob man länger oder härter arbeiten will, ob man investieren, spekulieren oder sogar darum spielen möchte. Das hart verdiente Geld kann man für Süssigkeiten wieder ausgeben. Aber Achtung! Die Preise schwanken!

Inspired by Bill Philips' Monetary National Income Analogue Computer - MONIAC - from the 1940s, Daniel Debruin's interpretation is an analogue installation that can be played by up to four people simultaneously: Spending, investing, and earning money - a simulation of the financial system visualized by wandering metal balls.

In 1949 Bill Phillips built an analog computer to demonstrate the functioning of an economy in a fluid system. Daniël De Bruin's installation can be understood as an homage.

To set De Bruin's machine and business in motion, cash flow must be physically activated. This adds a physical dimension to the system, which is mainly virtual in everyday business life. To earn money, you can choose to work longer or harder, invest, speculate or gamble with it. The hard earned money can be spent on sweets again. But beware! Prices fluctuate!
